Commercial Featuring Overzealous Dad Beats out Talking Bananas, Jealous Girlfriends, Extreme Body Paint and a Human Chameleon to Win Skinit's $10,000 TV Spotlight Challenge

SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Skinit, Inc., the leader in consumer personalization for electronic devices, announced the winner of the company's $10,000 TV Spotlight Challenge. Jared Cicon, a former wedding photographer turned "do it yourself" filmmaker and producer from Claremont, California, nabbed the top prize for his entry, "You dream it.. we'll skin it." "We challenged anyone with a creative bent to make a 60-second commercial they would want to see on TV," said Paul Buss, CEO of Skinit.com. "Jared's spot has widespread appeal. It definitely captured the spirit of Skinit and made us laugh at the same time." Cicon, who has been both a winner and finalist in other Internet contests, said he's always on the lookout for a new challenge. "I was a wedding photographer for almost 17 years before making a successful transition into filmmaking and producing three years ago. The Skinit contest really jumped out at me because personalization is such a hot trend, and they advertised the contest as an open call for 'skilled creatives,'" said Cicon. "I have four kids, and everyone in the family was excited to get involved. During the production process, I destroyed a baseball, a basketball jersey, a pair of jeans and even my wife's underwear, but it was worth it!" The 100+ entries to Skinit's TV commercial and storyboard contest were hosted on Skinit's YouTube page, www.youtube.com/skinittv. Judges evaluated the submissions based on originality and creativity, overall appeal, likelihood to motivate the public to purchase from Skinit.com and popularity/public vote feedback. The Skinit TV Spotlight Challenge judging panel included Buss, veteran journalist and San Diego TV 6 Tech Correspondent Steve Kovsky, Chapman University Associate Professor of Film and Media Arts Pete Weitzner, and commercial director and film producer Scott Wells. As the $10,000 grand prize winner, Cicon will get the chance to have his winning entry broadcast on national TV. The entry, "The Chameleon," took second prize, and third prize was awarded to "Choices." The judges also awarded a $5,000 grand prize for the best storyboard entries.
